Further Research

This is a heraldic pennant flag that fits in the helmet of Patrick, the Earl of Dunbar or his destrier (war horse). Heraldic arms are “Gules, a lyon rampant argent, a border of the second of roses argent.” Most importantly, his half brother was the father of Braveheart, Sir William Wallace! Foster’s Book on English Heraldry quotes the recorded text of the Guillam Roll of Arms calling the asterisk shapes roses (they have six petals, not five (which are cinquefoils as drawn).

Sir Malcolm Wallace was father of Braveheart, sir William Wallace
