Cani Duro may contain an early form of the tribal name and to be interpreted as ‘the enduring Iceni’. It may also be interpreted as a place name meaning ‘reed fort’ or a fort of the Iceni. It is more probable that it was a personal name such as Canicos, ‘handsome’ and Duronos, ‘gate man’. We should probably regard Cani and Duro as a couple of co rulers who reigned briefly around the time of Antedios.
