The profile issue groats and halfgroats introduced by Henry VII display very fine portrait details like the testoon of the period. They represent a change from the representational facing bust image used for several centuries before, to the familiar obverse format still used today.
Regular issue, mm. cross-crosslet, full flan example, struck on good metal.

This truly magnificent piece will be familiar to many as the Arras Medallion of Constantius I. A spectacular gold medallion valued at 10 solidi issued to commemorate the end of Constantius’s campaign, his victory over the British usurper Allectus and the recapture of London circa AD 297.
We sold this piece recently and wanted to share it with you. In case you are concerned, no we are not writing this from inside a prison cell, if you look carefully this is actually a 20th Century copy of the original, executed very well indeed.

Including a portrait coin of the rare Mercian king Berhtwulf, well known Alfred the Great of Wessex, Cnut from the Anglo Viking kingdom of York and Harold I ‘Harefoot’, named due to his reputed speed in battle!
