Hadrian Silver Denarius 117-138AD
17mm, 3.09g

Hadrian was born Publius Aelius Hadrianus, probably in Hispania (Spain), and became famous for his substantial building projects throughout the Roman Empire including Hadrian’s Wall in northern Britain. The wall was the north-west frontier of the Roman empire for nearly 300 years, built by the Roman army on the orders of the emperor, following his visit to Britain in AD 122.

Reverse type shows Hadrian sacrificing from a patera held over a tripod alter.

An exceptional quality portrait of Hadrian.
