Anglo Saxon Great Square Head Brooch & Necklace

Anglo Saxon Great Square Head Brooch & Necklace consisting of Amber and decorated glass beads.

Brooch

Chip carved and gilded, dark patina with some gilding remaining and impressive zoomorphic art.

Brooch dimensions 118mm long by 40mm wide, 70.82g (including detached lower part).

The very foot of this brooch has broken but the part was located by the metal detectorist nearby and is included.

Necklace

20 beads, 19 amber in varied size and one red glass bead with a band of yellow and green swirled glass.

The main brooch was located using a metal detector in 1989 then the foot and beads collected over many years in the vicinity, each time the field was cultivated a few more we found. The site is situated near Norwich, East Anglia, UK.
