Marius was a blacksmith by trade however he also had a career in the military and following the assassination of Postumus was proclaimed emperor by the army. His reign was short as he in turn was quickly assassinated by his own troops.
The coinage of Marius was mostly issued from Cologne although a small amount of coinage may also have been minted in Trier.
