Max. 59mm, 18g
Enamelled objects have been produced at Limoges, in south-western France, over several centuries up to the present day. This piece is from the first period of its European importance, when from the 12th century to c.1370 there was a large industry producing metal objects decorated with enamel using the champlevΓ© technique, where cells are filled with vitreous enamel. Most of the objects from this period are religious in nature for example cross fittings and reliquaries.
