Volusian was the son of Trebonianus Gallus and was appointed Caesar upon the elevation of his father to Augustus. When Hostilian died from the plague shortly afterwards Volusian was elevated to co emperor and Augustus. When the usurper Aemilian marched on Rome in AD 253 Volusian along with his father were murdered by their own troops.
The coinage of Volusian can be divided into those issued, all from Rome, whilst he was Caesar and that issued whilst he was Augustus which was minted in both Rome and Antioch.
