The Viking Kingdom of York specifically refers to the city of York when it was controlled by Norse warrior kings during the late ninth and first half of the 10th century AD, and more generally to southern Northumbria during this time.
Control was regained by the English in 954AD. Little is known about Cnut, unlike the later Cnut the Great in the eleventh century.
