Scotland, Robert III Silver Groat 1390-1406AD Edinburgh
26mm, 2.60g

Robert III, formerly known as the Earl of Carrick, was the eldest son of Robert II. He devalued the Scottish coinage to the extent that it was worth half the English equivalent by 1392. The groats feature a facing bust, compared to the profile busts of his predecessors, making them similar in appearance to the English issues of the period.
