Istros was a Greek colony in the ancient region of Moesia, situated in the Balkans, near the Danube river on the western coast of the Black Sea. The obverse shows two facing male heads, one inverted; the reverse an eagle grasping a dolphin. It has been suggested that the reverse image represents the sky and the underworld united.
