18x19mm, 7.38g

Extremely Fine, a wonderful coin with regard to style and grade.

The aureus was the basic gold monetary unit of ancient Rome and the Roman world and in the Roman monetary system equated to 25 silver denarii.
This scarce example has an obverse legend reading L VERVS AVG ARMENIACVS around the bare head of Lucius Verus facing right. The reverse legend reads TR P IIII IMP II COS II with Victory standing right, placing a shield inscribed VIC/AVG in two lines on a palm. This type was minted in 164AD.

An exceptional portrait!
