Silbury Coins is proud to introduce the Scottish Borders collection, spanning over 2000 years of British history.
Beginning with the Iron age, examples of gold and silver coinage including highlights such as a rare gold stater of the Atrebatic king Epaticcus. There are around 27 staters of Epaticcus known, 13 of which are housed in the British museum. Epaticcus is most famous for expelling king Verica from Southern England with the backing of Cunobelinus prompting the Claudian Invasion in 43 A.D.
Which leads us nicely on to the Roman coins, including gold aurei of Claudius and Marcus Aurelius together with high grade silver denarii and Sestertii.
Silver and gold coins from the Anglo Saxon period feature a Crondall Shilling, several rarities from Northumbria and late pennies from rare mints such as Bridport and Dorchester.
English Medieval gold coins are well represented, then with the introduction of milled coinage we see a run of two guinea pieces followed by a proof Gothic crown of Victoria and 1937 Proof set from George VI.
Careful attention has been paid to the quality of the coins, we think this shows and it has been a pleasure preparing this collection for the market!
