Domitian Gold Aureus 81-96AD Rome Bust of Minerva Rare
19x18mm, 7.68g

Domitian was the younger brother of Titus and the son of Vespasian, his two predecessors on the throne, and the last member of the Flavian dynasty. During his reign, the authoritive approach to his rule put him in conflict with the senate at times, whose powers he actively controlled. The obverse legend reads IMP CAES DOMITIANVS AVG P M, showing his laureate head right; the reverse reads TR POT IMP II COS VIII DES VIIII PP, depicting the helmeted, cuirassed bust of Minerva, god of wisdom and strategic warfare, facing left, holding spear over shoulder.

This coin comes with an old collectors ticket.

A very attractive example.
