Today we have listed a selection of Iron Age coins, gold staters, quarter staters and silver units from the Corieltavi tribe and others, these are a favourite of ours as each is a mini masterpiece of ancient art! Thanks to their precious metal content these have survived the last 2000 years in fantastic condition and are here to delight us today!
Todays upload comes from the Roman world, the star piece is a wonderful gold aureus of Maximinus II, a rare type which is seldom encountered for sale.
This is joined by a fleet of coins featuring galleys, including Mark Antony legionary denari, fine examples of Hadrian, Caracalla, Allectus and finally a rare joint issue of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus.
