Good metal, a few peck marks, a good example of this extremely rare Somerset mint.

Bruton, like Cadbury, Milborne Port and Crewkerne, was a western mint that started striking during Æthelred II’s reign. The unsettled political conditions caused by Viking raids prompted the transfer of personnel between established mints like Ilchester and certain ’emergency’ mints. Probably no more than a handful of coins survive from any of these mints.
