Cnut Silver Penny 1016-1035AD Brintnoth, London

19mm, 1.09g, S1157

A pleasing coin.

Cnut was a Dane, the son of Sweyn Forkbeard and was king of England, Denmark and Norway, having won the throne of England from Edmund II (Ironside) after centuries of Viking raids.
Three main types of coins were struck during the reign of Cnut, the quatrefoil (this coin being an example), pointed helmet and short cross, each type having regional variations even from the same mint and moneyer.
