Charles I Gold Unite 1625-1649AD
33x34mm, 8.94g

The Unite, first introduced by James I to replace the sovereign, was struck again under Charles I as a 20-shilling (£1) gold coin. This issue, for the first time, had a figure ‘XX’ on the obverse besides the portrait of Charles to denote a value of 20-shillings.

This example of a group B, second bust coin, was struck at the tower mint under the king and shows the ‘anchor’ mintmark for 1628/9.
