Tasciovanos, or ‘killer of badgers’ was a powerful king who merits wider fame. If he had not been so industrious his son, Cunobelinus, would not have been so illustrious. During his reign Tasciovanos strengthened the already powerful Catuvellauni laying the foundations for the great tribal empire which he built. The coinage of Tasciovanos was one of the most sophisticated in Britain and Gaul displaying innovative designs and six different denominations that were issued in gold, silver and bronze. Many of his coins have been found in Kent suggesting that he had considerable influence over the Cantiaci.
