Very few coins of this type have been offered for sale, this example is centrally struck on both obverse and reverse. With little gold available at this time silver and other metals were substituted giving the majority of coins from this period a ‘pale gold’ appearance. If tested the cataloguer suspects that gold content of this coin would be circa 10%. A most interesting series, the beginning of our emergence from ‘The Dark Ages’.

Provenance will be provided, recorded with the UKDFD (UK Detector Finds Database)
