Anglo Saxon Silver Sceat Secondary Series QIVD, 710-760AD. SCBI plate coin. Extremely Rare.
S811, 12mm, 0.93g. some cleaning marks.
A base issue, this being one of the finest known hence it’s use as the plate coin in Spink’s Coins of England (no 811).
This coin is from the famous Abramson collection & comes with his handwritten tickets. Also recorded with the EMC.

This truly magnificent piece will be familiar to many as the Arras Medallion of Constantius I. A spectacular gold medallion valued at 10 solidi issued to commemorate the end of Constantius’s campaign, his victory over the British usurper Allectus and the recapture of London circa AD 297.
We sold this piece recently and wanted to share it with you. In case you are concerned, no we are not writing this from inside a prison cell, if you look carefully this is actually a 20th Century copy of the original, executed very well indeed.

Introducing the St Austell collection of Anglo Saxon, Norman and Plantagenet silver pennies. Formed in the 1990’s-2000’s by a collector in Cornwall, England.
Including a portrait coin of the rare Mercian king Berhtwulf, well known Alfred the Great of Wessex, Cnut from the Anglo Viking kingdom of York and Harold I ‘Harefoot’, named due to his reputed speed in battle! Mints represented include Chester, Oxford, Hastings, Lewes, Dover, York and Wallingford. Most coins have his handwritten label and sometimes others, see individual listings for details.
