Allectus Bronze Antoninianus 293-296AD
21mm, 3.82g

Allectus, a Menapian (Belgic) officer in the Roman navy, seized power in Britain and northern Gaul from Carausius, to whom he was treasurer, in 293AD. Constantius Chlorus, caesar of the western empire, had re-taken some of his Gallic territories, including the strategic port of Bononia (Boulogne), thereby isolating Britain. Allectus assassinated Carausius and assumed command of Britain and Northern Gaul himself.
