Macedon Philip II 359-336 BC Gold Stater, Postumous Issue, Pella
Obverse – Laureate head of Apollo facing right.

19mm, 8.62g
Style of much artistic merit, contributing to a truly wonderful coin and important piece of history.
This iconic type was the base for the British Iron Age (Celtic) coin series, the obverse showing a head of Apollo facing right and the reverse a charioteer drawn by two horses (Biga). This design appears on many of the early Gallic & British Iron Age coins, albeit in a much cruder ‘stylized’ form.
