New Ancient coins listed!
A small selection of Greek, Roman & Byzantine coins have been listed this week, a gold Stater of Philip II and Electrum stater from Carthage, together with a run of Tiberius denarii from the Helmingham hoard (Suffolk). Ending with gold solidi dating to the end of the Roman Empire, Zeno was the last in a long line of emperors before the Byzantine Empire took hold.An exciting group of Iron Age coins has been listed today, gold staters, quarter staters and silver from all of the coin issuing tribes, the stars include the best Dobunni Eisu stater we’ve ever seen (yes, it really is that good!) and an excessively rare silver unit of Verica, arguably the finest known.
A nice selection of British coins have been listed today, starting with some really rare sceat’s, an example of the rarely seen Aelfwald II’s short lived coinage and the coveted ‘Fledgling type’ from the Secondary series.
Still with the Saxon’s a selection of pennies of Aethelred and Edward the Confessor then important Medieval pieces like Robert the Bruce of Scotland and Oliver Cromwell.
