Coenwulf Silver Penny 796-821AD
19mm, 1.31g

Coenwulf was king of Mercia, succeeding Offa's son Ecgfrith. He was descended from the 7th century king Penda of Mercia. During his reign he had to actively re-gain the kingdoms of East Anglia and Kent.

A penny of the Canterbury mint, moneyer DUDA.

EMC 2013.0360

Good silver and a nice dark tone with some iridescence, small scuff on cheek but does not detract from a well balanced coin.
