Anglo Saxon Cruciform Brooch
Fnd. Yorks
63x25mm, 13.49g

Bronze brooch with cruciform head, arched bow with collar, and slightly expanded foot, catchplate intact to rear together with remains of iron fastening pin. It has been suggested that they were worn singly. Cruciform brooches varied in size and style, some were decorated whilst others (like this example) were not; dating circa fifth to seventh centuries (about AD450-650) they have been found mainly in East Anglia and the Midlands.
