Kings of England Aethelstan Silver Penny 924-939AD Helmet type Fulrad
Kings of England Aethelstan Silver Penny 924-939AD Helmet type, moneyer Fulrad
An exceptional coin bearing a wonderful portrait of the first king of all England, good metal with a dark tone and hints of iridescence.
This coin comes with a previous collectors ticket (as well as ours of course)
The eldest son of Edward the Elder, he succeeded in the re-conquest of Danish controlled territory with the capture of York in 927AD. He introduced the coinage law at Grately which stated that there should be one coinage throughout the kings land and no minting except in a port; it also outlined the quota of moneyers for each borough. This led to a reformed coinage with less imitation as had been common in his fathers reign.
