Post Medieval

Post medieval times refer herein to include the Tudor dynasty up to the accession of the Hanoverians in Britain. The period reflects more rapid advances in technology, culture and discovery, giving rise to a broader range of functional and decorative small metal artefacts. Seal matrices of this period more frequently occur in silver with fine engraving, portraits or busts of the reigning monarch were popular together with family heraldic crests. Jewellery from these times, in particular finger rings, is widely popular. Posy rings, engraved with a short poem or prose, typically religious or amorous, continue to be widely used, and we stock examples whenever possible. With the introduction of tobacco in Europe in the late 15th century, associated smoking artefacts such as pipe tampers evolved in a variety of forms, which are often very decorative and desirable.
